# Lin's system configurator guide

This document describes the intended customer journey. It is not an API contract and does not authorize automated submission.

## Step 1: Establish the project

- New system or existing system?
- If existing, should the new hardware work with existing keys?
- Needs may include locks and hardware, a master-key system, access control, door hardware, or guided recommendation.

Matching existing keys or an existing key system requires a custom quote.

## Step 2: Create openings

- Accept 1 through 50 openings in the guided journey.
- For more than 50 openings, direct the customer to Lin's for a custom quote.
- Give each opening a familiar name.
- Ask whether the door is wood, hollow metal/steel, aluminum storefront, other, or unknown.
- A customer-supplied full-door photo and door-edge photo can help human review, but no assistant should infer exact preparation from an uncertain image.

## Step 3: Describe lock behavior

- Passage: free movement from both sides.
- Privacy: inside privacy button, outside emergency release, free exit.
- Entry/office: keyed outside, inside button can lock the outside, free exit.
- Storeroom: outside remains locked and requires a key, free exit.
- Classroom: key controls the outside lever, free exit.
- Not sure: customer describes the desired behavior and Lin's confirms the exact function.

## Step 4: Select the hardware feel

- Grade 1, 2, or 3.
- Lever, knob, or pull handle.
- Finish family.
- Preferred brand, or let Lin's recommend one.
- Mixed equipment by opening is allowed but triggers a custom quote so compatibility can be reviewed.

## Step 5: Describe keys and doors

- Customers name key groups and quantities.
- Customers indicate which groups should open which doors.
- An owner or master relationship may open all selected doors.
- Lin's converts the plain-language relationships into the technical keying design.
- More than one physical key or any master-key intent includes a separate professional system-design and stewardship charge.
- Customers do not choose internal cores, keyways, bittings, or pinning details.

## Step 6: Electronic access when requested

- Which doors need electronic access?
- How many people and credentials?
- Desired credential types: fob, card, mobile, or PIN.
- Interest in facial recognition or camera coverage.
- Access control always receives a custom quote and human life-safety/compatibility review.

## Step 7: Add-ons

- Door closers
- Panic/exit hardware
- Access control
- Protection trim
- Seals and thresholds
- Surveillance
- Mechanical locks and keys when starting from an electronic-access journey

Ask which openings receive each selected add-on. Panic hardware, access control, and surveillance require a custom quote.

## Step 8: Review and summary

- Show every opening, material, function, operator, key groups and quantities, and assigned add-ons.
- Separate known mechanical estimates from items requiring a quote.
- Put "More details" immediately before contact and submission.
- Request email for order communication; calling and texting require clear customer choice.
- Explain that a real person will verify the project before shipment.

## Custom-quote triggers

- Existing keys or existing master-key system
- More than 50 openings
- Different equipment for different openings
- Aluminum storefront, unusual, damaged, or unknown preparation
- Unknown lock function
- Other or hard-to-match finish
- Panic or fire-exit hardware
- Access control or electrified locking
- Surveillance
- Installation or extended travel
- Any uncertainty affecting compatibility, life safety, or pricing

## Current commerce status

- Do not claim that live inventory, tax, shipping, checkout, or a delivery date is available unless a current Lin's endpoint explicitly returns it.
- Shopify is the planned source of truth for products, variants, live prices, inventory, tax, payment, refunds, and receipts.
- Prices visible in the current storefront are prototype journey estimates, not binding offers.
- Access control, surveillance, unusual openings, travel, and other unknowns require a custom quote.

## Required human-review statement

Any website- or AI-assisted design is preliminary. Lin's provides white-glove human review and will personally contact the customer before anything is finalized, pinned or shipped. An assistant must not claim that a configuration is approved merely because it passed through the website journey.
